My favorite core exercise
Kim Raubenheimer - Monday, June 08, 2009
Get to your core.
Having a strong core can help you with every day physical activities.Such as, standing upright and moving on two feet, controlled movements,
shifting weight from one foot to another and moving in any direction.
The "core" actually consists of many different muscles that stabilize the
spine and pelvis and run the entire length of the torso.
A strong core distributes the stresses of weight-bearing and protects the back.
One of my favorite core exercises is the Front Plank.
If you have shoulder problems you may want to avoid the plank exercises.
Front Plank
Lie on your stomach.
Raise your body as if doing a pushup except rest your bodyweight on your elbows.
Be sure your shoulders are over your elbows.
Your body should be in a straight line from your shoulders to your ankles with your
weight resting on your toes and elbow. Push thru your heels, keep your cervical spine neutral.
Keep your midsection braced and tight.
Hold this position for 10-20 seconds when beginning. Gradually try to build to 60 seconds.
MODIFICATIONS: Lower your knees to the floor and perform this exercise. This gives you less weight to support.
Consult your physician before starting an exercise or nutrition program.
Pick-your-own

Where do fruits and vegetables such as; lettuce, apples, strawberries and corn come from?
The store. (the answer from a pre-schooler)
Bringing kids to your local farm to pick their own fruits and vegetables helps them learn the different types of produce and understand how they are grown.
It is also a great time to get outside and spend time with your family and friends buying fresh produce from your local farmers.
Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, vegetables, and flowers and more can be picked at a number of local farms.
A couple great websites to visit to find out where to go and when is best for harvesting.
Best to call ahead.
